Episode 190 – Crazy to the Macs

The Michael’s welcome in the new year with a philosophical discussion on why do we need a dedicated speaker for a digital assistant? What’s the secret sauce as to why a dedicated device is worth it verses just using the one on your phone? We also tweeted out a quick poll on which device do you use?

We then discuss Magic Leap’s finally announced Developer kit. Are you getting your’s? What do you think about it’s form factor? Is it the next great dev kit, or will it just be another Google Glass like launch? We look at the design and Michael R. appreciates how people got the tethered part wrong (as they usually do from early prototypes).

Going from AR we look back at virtual assistants with two apps, Fin and Filld, which help people with a busy life get mundane things done. Is it just Task Rabbit or something more? Is it within the reach of average consumers? Not yet, but who knows.

We then look at unrolling tweet storms and turning them into a blog post, via a google chrome plug in. An finally we go back to a few old favorites with Civilizations and the Animaniacs.

What will you do this year? We plan on doing the same thing we do every year, Try and take over the world!!!

Happy new year!

Episode 171 – Jelly Jelly Bo Belly

Zoolander phone

This episode is chock full of tasty treats, of the cellphone and robotic kinds!  Michael & Michael start off with a conversation about the Kickstarter for the Jelly phone — a 4g cell phone that is running Android Nougat (Michael M still believes it should have been Nutella) and can handle two SIM cards for, wait for it, under $100 unlocked.

The pair talk about the new capabilities expected to be included with Apple’s Swift Playgrounds when announced at WWDC next week.  The ability to code in a simple-to-learn language and have that code execute in real 3d life — in a Sphereo BB-8 or a Lego Mindstorms robot would be just great.

Speaking of robotics, the Draper DragonflEye concept of marrying a live dragonfly with a mind-controlling solar powered backpack brings to mind other variations of insect robotics — from the selfie drone Nixie, to a full cast of drones that will follow you around.

Maximizing screen real estate by extending the MacOS desktop to a nearby iPad Pro captures the attention of the pair, and Michael M gives his thoughts about two solutions that he’s been working with over the past week.

Closing things out, Michael M surprises Michael R with a game he’s playing that is not 8-bit.

Episode 38 – Dragon Box

The Michael’s are on together, unfortunately Phaedra could not make it this week due to unforeseen events. We talk about the game Dragon Box, which helps little kids learn the concepts of Algebra. The game so interested Michael M. that he actually shelled out money for the game and is testing it out on his own kids.

We then go down on a bit of a rathole on can you truly use your tablet for content creation, or is it just a consumption device. Is MyScript Calculator content creation?

We also theorize about the new Facebook game – “Bang with Friends” and how you can use it at your work place. Talk about an exciting show! Could this be a great parallel to security testing? Will this game break your heart – just like the Simpson’s Tapped Out? Do you have your golden ticket?
